How to Bridge from Ethereum to Arbitrum

I’ve spent years exploring blockchain technology, and one of the most asked questions I've encountered is bridging from Base to Ethereum. I have prepared this guide to help you with the process of Bridging your Ethereum to Arbitrum. Arbitrum will help you with quicker transactions and lower fees and is also scalable.

Arbitrum, is a Layer 2 scaling solution designed to make Ethereum transactions faster and more affordable

Can I Bridge from Ethereum to Arbitrum?

Yes, you can bridge assets from Ethereum to Arbitrum! Arbitrum is one of Ethereum's Layer 2 solutions, which means it operates on top of Ethereum's main blockchain to increase efficiency while retaining the security of Ethereum's Layer.

Why Bridge to Arbitrum?

  • Lower Fees: Gas fees on Ethereum can be notoriously high, especially during periods of heavy network activity. Bridging to Arbitrum allows you to perform transactions at a fraction of the cost.
  • Faster Transactions: While Ethereum can process around 15 transactions per second, Arbitrum significantly increases throughput, allowing for quicker processing times.
  • Scaling Ethereum: By moving to Arbitrum, you're leveraging Ethereum’s scaling solution, which helps relieve congestion on the Ethereum mainnet.

Go multi-chain without the hassle of bridging

What if I told you that there's no need to wait to spend your token balances across multiple chains without bridging?

Arcana Chain Abstraction removes the need for manual bridging by creating a unified wallet balance that works seamlessly across chains.

For example, if I hold 200 USDT on Arbitrum and 200 USDT on Optimism, I can send 400 USDT on Base without wasting time on Bridging them.

Step-by-Step Guide to Bridging from Ethereum to Arbitrum

Step 1: Set Up Your Wallet for Arbitrum

To start, you’ll need a wallet that supports both Ethereum and Arbitrum networks. You can use Arcana Wallet for this.

Step 2: Choose a Bridge

Next, you'll need to pick a bridge to transfer your tokens from Ethereum to Arbitrum. Arcana supports Jumper Exchange, and we'll be using it

Step 3: Connect Your Wallet

Once you’ve chosen a bridge, follow these steps:

  1. Open the bridge website, in our case it would be Jumper Exchange
  2. Click Connect Wallet and select your wallet

Step 4: Select the Token to Bridge

Now, select the token you wish to bridge. You can bridge tokens like ETH, USDT, USDC, and other ERC-20 tokens. Be sure to:

  • Check that the token you want to transfer is supported by the bridge.
  • Ensure you have enough ETH in your wallet to cover the gas fees for the transaction on the Ethereum network.

Step 5: Approve and Initiate the Bridge Transfer

Once you’ve selected the token and amount:

  1. Click Approve to authorize the bridge to use your token.
  2. You will need to pay gas fees in ETH for this approval process.
  3. After approval, initiate the transfer by clicking Confirm.
  4. Wait for the transaction to be confirmed on Ethereum.

Step 6: Wait for Confirmation

The bridging process usually takes a few minutes, but it can vary depending on network congestion. You can monitor the progress directly from the bridge interface.

  • Once the transaction is complete, your assets will appear in your Arbitrum wallet.
  • If the transfer takes longer than expected, check your transaction status on Etherscan and Arbiscan.

Step 7: Access Your Funds on Arbitrum

Finally, make sure your bridged tokens are accessible on the Arbitrum network. If you don’t see your tokens in your wallet:

  1. Manually add the token by copying the token contract address from Arbiscan.
  2. Click Import Tokens in Arcana Wallet and paste the contract address.

Now, you can use your assets on the Arbitrum network, with faster transactions and much lower fees!

A Seamless Alternative: Chain Abstraction

While bridging is a useful tool, it can often be a hassle—managing different wallets, waiting for confirmations, and dealing with fragmented liquidity. But what if bridging wasn’t a necessity, but just an option?

With Chain Abstraction, users can transact seamlessly across chains without the need to bridge, swap, or refuel gas. Arcana Network makes this possible through Arcana Wallet, the first chain abstraction-enabled EOA wallet, which unifies your USDT, USDC and ETH across chains and allows you to spend them effortlessly. Now, apps can also offer this experience by integrating Arcana’s Chain Abstraction SDK, enabling unified balances natively within their platforms.
